The spirit of kindness is alive and well in Mallala, with a free library popping up last month.
The little library is the brainchild of local residents Terry and Christine Stevens, who wanted to provide an opportunity for everyone in the community to access preloved books free of charge.
Housed in an repurposed, weatherproof and colourfully decorated fridge outside their home at 13 Dublin Road, Mallala, the Little Free Library already has a range of donated books.
So, how does it work?
“You come along at any time, open the door, have a look, choose one, two or as many books as takes your interest, and off you go,” Terry explained on his Facebook post on May 23.
“If you have books you have read and want to pass them along, place them in the library.
“Eventually there will be all sorts, fiction, non-fiction of all types, magazines, kids books, all free to take and read.
Access to the Little Free Library is 24 hours; but Terry advises bringing a torch if you plan on coming after dark!
“The library is open to anyone in the area or just passing through, to share their love of reading, and keeping good books out of landfill,” he said.
“We hope it will become a treasured part of the Mallala community, please enjoy.”
Nice one Terry and Christine.
