Adelaide Plains Council has formally written to Minister for Local Government, Geoff Brock, seeking an extension of time to provide information he requires to make a decision on APC’s request to withdraw from the Gawler River Floodplain Management Authority.
APC are unable to achieve his deadline of 31 January 2018 as the engineering firm they engaged to undertake two reviews, Southfront, will not have the reviews completed until the end of February at the latest.
APC believe these reports are crucial in demonstrating council’s concerns surrounding the inequities of the current GRFMA charter as well as the costly impact the proposed Northern Floodway will have on APC.
Council members also voted in favour of cordially requesting a deputation with a third political party (in addition to council’s request to meet both the Minister and Shadow Minister for Local Government), namely SA-BEST.
Elected members of the APC controversially voted to remove themselves from the GRFMA in May of last year, citing the financial burden of the proposed future mitigation works as burdensome and unfavourable to ratepayers.
