In the swim for Virginia students

Virginia Primary School’s first foray at the Playford District SAPSASA swimming carnival recently saw two students selected to compete at the state championships on March 16.

Sovanhi Thach was chosen for the 10-year-old girls 50M breastroke and butterfly events while fellow student, Ashlee McSeveney, was selected for the 11-year-old girls 50M freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events.

While both girls did not place in any of their events at the championships, which was held at the Marion Aquatic Centre, Sovanhi and Ashlee both said they had a fantastic day and tried their best.

The pair was very happy and proud of their efforts to make it that far and for the experience.

VPS physical education teacher James Yates said the school took 13 students to compete at the Playford District SAPSASA swimming carnival on Tuesday February 28 and was pleased by their effort, sportspersonship and participation.

Students competed in a variety of events including, freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly.

“We had a lot of success and came first for the Playford district small schools category,” James said.

Congratulations to all who took part.
