Locals dig in with tree planting effort

Nature was given a helping hand on the weekend with volunteers planting 500 native coastal plants along closed tracks at Thompsons Beach.

The mass planting is part of the Natural Resource Management’s coastal program, which is working in partnership with the District Council of Mallala to improve remnant vegetation along the district’s coastline.

All of the seed for the plants was collected on site, with about 15 volunteers, including some keen children, digging in and getting their hands dirty to put them into the ground.

Around 40 people have lent a hand in recent weeks to plant almost 5500 plants in total at other coastal sites including Parham, Light Beach, Port Prime and Port Gawler.
