By Marie Tapscott

Lower North Gun Club welcomed 25 competitors from as far as Alice Springs, Patchewollock, Victoria and Elsewhere Gun Club (Jamestown) to their monthly shoot on Sunday May 31.

In between showers of rain, competitors shot a program of two events with a total of 100 targets for the day.

The canteen ladies did a great job keeping everyone warm with hot food and beverages.

The program opened with a 50 target medley event sponsored by Two Wells Hotel Motel with some tempting dining vouchers.

After a great shoot off, AA Grade was won by Dino Oliviero with 70/70, with Rito Borzillo coming second on 78/79.

Winner of A Grade was Nev Wehrmann with a perfect score of 50/50 with John Byrnes close behind on 49/50.

B Grade had another close contest with Metro Martini gaining first place with 45/50 and Stan Keen second with 44/50.

C Grade was won by John Ward with 43/50.

The second event was the 50 target Lower North Single Barrel Championship sponsored by Adrian and Janiece Mattschoss.

The overall winner for this event was Nev Wehrmann with a terrific score of 48/50. First and second in AA Grade was battled out in a shoot off with Adrian Mattschoss taking first with 51/54 and Angus Tapscott second with 50/54.

A Grade was won by Nev Wehrmann on 48/50, with Tony Carlesso close behind on 47/50.

B Grade was won by Barry Duncan on 44/50, with Stan Keen taking second place with 39/50.

C Grade was won by John Ward with 31/50.

High Gun winners for the day included our state junior representative, Jack Tapscott winning Junior High Gun with 92/100.

Veteran High Gun was won by Bob Cook with 96/100, and the Overall High Gun was won by Elsewhere Gun Clubs Nev Wehrmann, who only dropped two targets for the day and finished with 98/100.

A team shoot was run in conjunction with the days shooting and for the second year in a row Team Tapscott – Greg, Angus and Jack – from Lower North Gun Club won with 280/300, just ahead of International Gun Club on 278/300.

Once again the hard work of the club members contributed to another well run program and thanks goes to the sponsors, and the shooters who travelled to compete and make it a great day.
