The District Council of Mallala celebrated National Youth Week by staging a free outdoor cinema at Mallala on April 12.
The Mallala Football Club, who provided a fabulous canteen including popcorn for the kids, supported the event.
The Two Wells Blue Light also kindly donated towards the event.
Luck was on our side and provided a clear, balmy evening.
“Epic’’ was the movie shown and enjoyed by all, with over 150 in attendance.
Deck chairs, beanbags, sleeping bags and swags were covering the oval, making it a wonderful sight.
The screen itself was massive and the sound system clear and loud.
The Regional Youth Bus was also in attendance proving a huge success and a great indication of how successful the bus will be across the region.
The young people clambered on board and were not budging from the Xboxes and funky spaces.
Giveaways on the night included flashing coloured light key chains, casino pa natet hacky sacks, temporary tattoos and lollipops.
Unfortunately the planned Two Wells outdoor cinema had to be cancelled with the rains pouring and poor weather conditions but will be rescheduled, so look out for the next date – you won’t want to miss out!
The Regional Youth Bus also attended the council meeting on April 13 to formally launch the bus in our region and to acknowledge DCM’s hard work in getting this project off the ground and on the road.
The RYB project is a mobile youth facility and a Facebook page specifically for 12 to 24 year olds.
It will support local young people and communities through fun activities, education, referrals and by increasing the support services for our rural towns.
The RYB has provided an opportunity for neighbouring councils to support youth in a collaborative and cost effective way.
The bus is packed with the latest technologies including gaming, music and WIFI, all in a supervised safe environment for young people to hang out with friends.
At the same time visitors can chat with staff and access a host of information and support on such things as career planning, health and wellbeing.
