CFS cash raised at Two Wells

The Commercial Hotel’s “Douse the Flames” event in Two Wells last month has raised more than $5,300 for country fire service volunteers.

Celebrating the efforts of local CFS personnel following the January Sampson Flat fire, the February 8 event saw patrons enjoy a lovely summer afternoon which featured rides in the CFS truck, a sausage sizzle, baked potatoes, and live music.

Entry was by gold coin donation, with a mega raffle offering a range of goods and services, all donated by local businesses.

Commercial Hotel manager, Claire Searle, said the raffle alone raised $3100, and the event as a whole was a great way to celebrate the important work CFS volunteers did.

One person certainly appreciative of the event was Two Wells CFS brigade captain, Adam Harris.

“It was a lot more than what we expected,” Adam said.

“Rather than asking for help it was given to us, which is different as we’re normally the ones out there fundraising, so to have someone organise an event like this for us, it was terrific.

“Most people are very thankful for what we are able to do (and) it was fantastic to see so much support from the locals.”

Entertainment at the event was provided by local band Shady Characters and performers from Two Wells based Music Sessions with Expressions.

All funds raised will be donated to the CFS Foundation, which supports injured firefighters and their families.
