PREMIER Jay Weatherill attended a seniors forum at Virginia on October 17, outlining the State Government’s moves to soften the impact of the Federal Budget cuts on pensioners.
The forum was organised by Member for Taylor, Leesa Vlahos, who also secured a visit from former Federal Health Minister and northern suburbs MP Martyn Evans at the event.
Ms Vlahos said the turnout of about 80 locals was a good result.
“It was a pleasure to see such a strong turnout from the local community to attend the forum,” she said.
“I would like to thank everyone who attended; the General Manager of the Palms Residential Park, Martin Banham, and the volunteers who helped with the venue set up.
“A big thankyou also goes to Premier Jay Weatherill and Martyn Evans who were guest speakers at the forum.
“I hope the attendees found the forum informative and interactive.
“Everyone had a chance to chat after the formalities.
“We spoke about planning ahead for our health care preferences using Advance Care Directives and the effect of the Federal Budget cut in our local communities.
“Forum attendees were shocked to hear that some of the areas in our state that are most adversely affected by the Federal Budget are Lewiston, Virginia, Salisbury North and Paralowie.
“I will be conducting more forums in the new year in other areas of the electorate.”
