The Angle Vale Lions was officially chartered into a club at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide on August 31.
International President of Lions, Joe Preston, chartered the club and transferred all 20 members into a fully-fledged Lions Club of Angle Vale.
The club was established in 2013 by now-president, Dorothy Lewtas, who now looks forward to getting her club immersed into the local community.
“We hope to get involved in local projects and help the community wherever we can,” Mrs Lewtas said.
“Our current goals are hoping to finding a site to sell our Lions Christmas Cakes, and we will also be selling Lions cakes, fudge and mints.”
The Lions Club barbeque will be their main avenue to raise money, which can be hired out for school functions, birthdays or other events.
“Our main objective is to raise money by barbeques, we have our own barbeque trailer which can be contracted out.”
Dorothy said they are currently focused on the cleaning up the Angle Vale Bridge area and possibly around the cemetery.
Dorothy was inducted into the Lions Club of Elizabeth, where she was also President back in 2000, before moving to the Angle Vale area.
“I moved to the area and found that there weren’t any Lion Clubs here and the requirements were just that you were an upstanding person and I was interested in the community,” she said.
“It took us just 16 months to get the required 20 members to charter a new club, after we established the Angle Vale Lions initially in 2013.
“We now have a charter dinner to be held on November 22at the Munno Para Bowling Club.”
Dorothy said the club is always looking for more members to join the newly formed club.
Current members are from areas including Angle Vale, Andrews Farm, Salisbury North, Munno Para and Virginia.
“We are always looking for new members as we want our club to grow so we can help the community with more projects.”
Dorothy asks readers who would like to ‘Help Their Community’ to please get in touch with the club either via email firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning 0416 452 925.
Meetings are held at the Angle Vale Gardens Community Centre, Fradd Rd Angle Vale.
