Wells take title

By TWCG vice-captain, Adam Bail

The month of August was highlighted by a fabulous win by Two Wells in our inter-club challenge with Hamley Bridge on August 9.

The Hamley boys arrived in force hoping to catch us off guard as we did up their way in the last meeting.

The visitors showed strong promise just like this time last year taking four of the NTP’s and one of the long drives.

However, as the scores rolled in it was obvious that Two Wells were going well with most scores in the 30’s with Hamley players in the 20’s.

The final result was that Two Wells retained the Hamley Challenge Cup and sent the visitors packing after giving them a fine meal and a bit of banter.

It was interesting that the Hamley players dominated the shorter holes winning most of the NTP’s – the theory is – no trees in the way.

For Two Wells, Yogi Frencken, Robert Hogg and John Ball led the way in A Grade with excellent scores and Steven Kelly and Michael Dimasi did the same in B Grade.

With both clubs we had a great showing with 35 players, which is testament to the great respect the clubs have for each other.

The final result for the day was Hamley Bridge with an average of 27.58 and Two Wells with an average of 33.38.

Congratulations Two Wells that’s five in a row.

A big thank you has to go out to all of the committee and members for their efforts in preparing and hosting such a successful day.

I’m sure we will head back to Hamley Bridge next year eager to continue the winning streak.

Late July also saw the biggest day on the club’s calendar, the Men’s Open Day take place with previous Open Day Champion Bowdie Bradwell from Highercombe taking home the major prize.

The day was a terrific day for the club with 53 players from clubs around the mid-north and surrounding areas participating in a fabulous day’s golf and competing for some great prizes.

Two Wells players took home many of the major prizes including the B Grade and C Grade Championships.

Thank you to our Open Day sponsors without which it wouldn’t be possible to provide such fabulous prizes.

The Ladies on Tuesdays have had a huge month also with a great conclusion to the Ladies Club Championships, which saw a repeat of last year’s final between Julie Holland and Kathy Stubing.

This year it was Kathy who took home the honours with a 3/2 victory.

Both Julie and Kathy have played quite consistently all year and it was no surprise that they were contesting the big one yet again.

Congratulations to both players.

If you would like to join us and try and tame our challenging little course and have a great day visit the club this Saturday.

Golf starts at 11am with tee offs until around 12.30pm and everyone in before 5pm for presentation of the days prizes and a chance to take home the much sought after Virginia Meat Store meat tray raffles.

Ladies also play on Tuesdays around 9.15am and new members always welcome.

Two Wells Golf Club also has a website, www.twowellsgolfclub.com.au with a wealth of information about the course, competitions, membership information and everything else you need to know. Come out and play! We would love to see you out there.

Also a quick reminder the upcoming Sponsors Day is on Sunday September 7 and the Handicap Matchplay Final on September 13. Good golfing everyone.
