Eleven-year-old Virginia resident, Claire Horsler, is one inspiring young lady.
The Virginia Primary School Year 5 student is aiming to raise more than $1500 by shaving off her long blonde locks in support of the World’s Greatest Shave.
Claire says she was motivated to participate in the event after seeing an advertisement on television.
“I saw how there was some kids with cancer and they didn’t have any hair,” she explained.
“I’m fundraising to get money to support people and their families who have blood cancer and for vital research.”
The school is right behind Claire’s cause, helping her to organise and display posters and to co-ordinate the official “shave” on Monday, December 9.
Year 4/5 teacher, Marie Lionello, says Claire’s determination and empathy is inspiring and the whole school community is embracing her efforts.
“She is such an enthusiastic and brave girl who is aiming to raise $1000 plus through family, friends and the school community by shaving her hair off and donating it,” Marie said.
“She is such an inspirational and brave girl.”
Claire will be having her head shaved on Monday December 9 at 12pm at the Virginia Primary School performing arts room by her uncle, who is a hairdresser. She has already begun her collection campaign, raising an impressive $1000 so far.
